A Few Firsts...

October 2, 2016

Yeesh!  What a busy day...and week!  We accomplished so much in such a short time, this week has been a blur.

First, we received notification that our farm was granted usage of the Homegrown By Heroes brand given out by the Farmer Veteran Coalition.  Now, you'll see the HBH logo on our webpage and all of our products!  The Farmer Veteran Coalition is a great program helping out veterans transitioning; check them out at www.farmvetco.org.  Funny, we received this the day AFTER our product labels arrived!

We also attended our first farmers market today at the Northeast Washington Farmers Market (www.newfarmersmarket.org) in Colville,  WA..  We had to prepare about 10 days ago to attend; planning our microgreens to grow, figuring out displays, ordering advertising materials et cetera.  This morning was a mad rush getting everything ready to go, loaded in the truck, and down the mountain in time...but we made it!

The market went better than I expected.  It was a cold, dreary day with a competing event going on nearby, so we foresaw a slow sales

day.  Even with all that, we nearly sold out!  We met a bunch of very nice folks, educated many on microgreens, stimulated taste buds, passed out many business cards, and hopefully made many return customers!  Now we're gearing up to attend Wednesday markets as well as Saturdays!

Finally, we delivered our first wholesale shipment to Meyers Falls Market in Kettle Falls, WA.!  This is a wonderful little grocery store that is packed with organic and locally grown produce.  They also make a killer Root Beer float!  http://www.meyersfallsmarket.com/

So yeah, this was a very busy week.  Next week has already begun for us because we're tending to our next Saturday batch of microgreens.  And, tomorrow we'll be planting our microgreens for market on Wednesday the 12th!  Also on the to-do list is adding our soil amendments to the garlic plot and getting cloves in the ground!
